Ellinwood-O'Brien-Clucus LectureshipEach year a nationally prominent vascular educator is invited to the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School as the distinguished Ellinwood lecturer. During their visit, they have an opportunity to teach and interact with medical students, general surgery residents, vascular fellows and attending surgeons. There are a variety of clinical case discussions and research presentations included in the schedule to provide ample informal interaction with the invited professor. The highlight of this visit is always the Ellinwood Lecture focusing on a timely topic in vascular surgery and is given by the guest lecturer in early May. The lecture is open to the public. The Ellinwood-O'Brien-Clucus lecture was made possible by a generous endowment from the Ellinwood Family. Joseph Ellinwood was a lifelong resident of Athol, Massachusetts where he founded a very successful family run insurance business. After undergoing vascular surgery at the University of Massachusetts Hospital in 1987, he decided to sponsor an annual lectureship in vascular surgery bearing his name. He was particularly intrigued by the idea that the endowment would sponsor this lecture for many years to come. Mr. Ellinwood was very philanthropic, donating money to many causes of which health care and educational institutions were his favorites. Mr. Ellinwood died in January 2002 at the age of 93. His presence at the annual meeting will be missed, but his memory lives on in the legacy of this lectureship. For more information about this year's lecture, please call the Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery, 508 856-5599. Past lectures have been given by the following distinguished physicians:
